Now a days search engine optimization(seo) is a key factor in e-business. In simple words we can say that seo is the process of bringing our webcontent(it may be a site,an ad,or any thing we put in internet for exhibit to the web users)in the first set of results in search engine, when people search using some keywords(words that we type for search something in search engines) related to it.
There may be a lot of things that define seo criteria. Let us discuss some of them in short.

1.URL

Try to select a domain name which describes your content in the site.Extensions also have some importance in seo.

2.Hosting space

If you host your site in a sever which is located in US, it is difficult to list that site when people search it from India.

3.Home page

Site's home page and its content is one of the most important thing. It is a good practice to put an html page as the home page even if you have a dynamic site. Its content should be relevent and related to the keywords you select.

4.Content

The whole site content must be clear and descriptive. An html site is better than a dynamic site in seo point of view. Regular updation of content also increases the site ranking.

5.Meta tag,Description

These are related to coding. All html pages contain these tags in which we can put certain keywords which relates our content. This will help search engines to catch your pages more easily.

6.Site map

This is an XML file which describes thewhole pages and its relevant content in your site. If you put a sitemap then the search engine boats can easily crawl through your sites content and display it to the intended viewers.

6.back linking

This is one of the most important criteria in seo. Simply this means, how many sites provide a link to your website. The more the back links the more better rank you can obtain in a search.
Usually this is a concern of seo companies.

8.Social networking

This is some what a new kind of criteria. Now a days, marketing through social networking sites is common. There is lot of things related to this like, creating account for site, sharing important information etc.
